From our beginning in 1858, the YWCAs around the world have stood for the elimination of
racism and empowerment of women - which continues today!
Throughout the world, YWCAs are in 122 countries serving 25 million women and their families.
In the United States, YWCAs are in almost 300 communities serving over 2 million members and
participants at 1,778 different sites and are organized into nine regions. The YWCA of Jamestown is
part of the Northeast region.
The YWCA is one of the largest providers of domestic violence programs and shelters in the U.S., serving
700,000 women and children annually.
The YWCA is one of the largest providers of child care in the U.S. with 750,000 children annually.
